No one is immune to the spookiness of Halloween. We all enjoy a good scare from time to time and this is the season we celebrate it! To that end, the staff at Level Up Entertainment would like to share some of our favorite movies, TV shows, and specials we return to every October. Whether they’re for fear, fun, or family you’ll find something for everyone.
The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror Episodes
The annual tradition of Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror episodes is still one of the best parts of the show. These out of continuity anthology episodes really allow the creators to get creative. Basically anything can happen to the characters and every episode is both parts hilarious and horrifying. It’s impossible to choose a favorite episode so just marathon them all!
Friday the 13th Series
While Halloween may have started the slasher genre, Friday the 13th really ran with it. While the killer Jason is a horror icon the kills are the real star of the show here. The characters are usually shallow and the plots and continuity frustratingly inconsistent but the creative and constant death scenarios are compelling enough to keep this franchise going until today!
The Devil’s Rejects
Rob Zombie’s film-making sensibilities are on full display here. A grimy, gritty, and uncomfortable atmosphere permeates the whole experience. Fortunately it’s punctuated with dark humor and some interesting characters.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Series)
At first glance Buffy seems like it might just be your typical high school drama series. While it has those aspects, there’s also tons of monster (mostly vampiric) fighting action! With strong characters, great drama, and that classic Whedon humor Buffy the Vampire Slayer is always great time!
THE SCP FOUNDATION
The SCP Foundation is a fictional agency dedicated to the containment and study of anomalous paranormal entities, objects, and locations around the world. Anyone is capable of writing entries and adding to the lore and there are some fantastically horrifying entries on the web site already. There are also some great YouTube channels that specialize in reading and reenacting memorable SCPs!
From Dusk til Dawn
Robert Rodriguez’s stylish heist movie unexpectedly becomes an insane vampire flick. One our criminal protagonists find themselves in the wrong bar they will have to try and survive the night surrounded by some of the most creative vampires we’ve ever seen!
Predator
Another movie that starts out as one type of movie than morphs into another. Predator starts out as your typical 80’s action movie fair but becomes a desperate survival movie has some unknown entity starts stalking and picking off our protagonists one by one. The Predator is one of the greatest movie monsters in cinematic history and that’s all because of this movie!
