HOW DID YOU GET INTO COSPLAY?

I had a friend bring me to my first convention in 2013 and I looked up the convention and saw the cosplayers and decided I wanted to join everyone in costume. My first ever costume was Misty from Pokemon.

WHY DO YOU LIKE COSPLAYING?

I’ve been a theater kid my entire life and I’ve loved crafting and sewing my whole life, so when I found cosplay it really tied together many of my passions.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS TO COSPLAY SO FAR?

I love the big armor and sewing builds but there are some really amazing character designs that I think I’ve enjoyed most. Recently I have fallen in love with cosplaying Jester from Critical Role

HOW DO YOU PUT TOGETHER YOUR COSTUMES?

There’s a lot of planning that goes into each costume and I break down each part of the costume and go from there.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE CONVENTIONS/EVENTS TO COSPLAY AT?

I love Magfest, it’s my favorite convention to date, holiday matsuri was really fun too! Of course, Katsucon is a classic for many but it’s so popular now it’s crazy crowded like DragonCon.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE COSPLAY STORIES?

I’ve gotten to meet a lot of very cool people from around the world, I remember one time at I think Magfest a couple of years ago, I was in a Kigurumi after I was done cosplaying for the day and I just sat down in the middle of the floor in one of the hallways and a bunch of people joined in and we started this little circle of people chilling and vibing to music.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU’VE HAD TO OVERCOME BEING A COSPLAYER?

I have some health issues like being really underweight and I also like to compare myself to really talented people and so I have to remind myself to look at how far I’ve come and not at how far I have yet to go.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE INTERESTED IN GETTING INTO COSPLAY?

Do it for yourself. Don’t do it for any other reason than having fun and being in the moment and for the love of costume making. I find many cosplayers who got into the industry to be famous had their hopes and dreams dashed and I hate to see people feel like their cosplays aren’t good just because they don’t get millions of likes.

WHAT CHARACTER WOULD YOU LOVE TO TACKLE SOMEDAY?

OH MY LORD THERES SO MANY!
I think the one that’s stood out to me is a very specific Queen Amidala dress I’ve loved and wanted to make before I even knew cosplay was a thing.
