We are living in the golden age of television, and a pretty OK age of movies! With the endless streaming services available to us, we have instant access to so much great media it makes choosing our favorites extremely difficult.
Here are our favorite movies or TV shows from 2019. Do you agree or disagree with our picks?
Netflix is killing it recently, I really enjoyed Tuca & Bertie, the Dark Crystal, and Umbrella Academy this year. But She-Ra went the extra mile for me, especially with this last season. I was never a fan of the old show (as a kid in the 90’s the show was bland and had some awful animation, comparatively), but I fell in love with this new show. The animation is amazing and really pops in fight scenes, the story is off the wall amazing, and, best of all, the bland one not characters of the old show really shine and bloom in this new iteration (Scorpina 4 life!). Whether a fan of the old show or not, I highly recommend this show for anyone interested!

Based on the comic series of the same name, the Boys takes a look at what would happen if super heroes existed in our real world - similar to the grittier takes on the genre by Watchmen or Kick-Ass. Though grounded in reality and all the brutalness that can entail, the Boys doesn’t take itself too seriously, and blends a mix of humor to balance out the more serious subject matter. I found the characters in the Boys to be more sympathetic than in some of the other depictions of real-world deconstructions of super heroes. The show also tackled society’s obsession with public image and the lengths that corporations will go to preserve it. The first season was only 8 episodes, and it flew by faster than A-Train flew through Hughie’s...know what? I’ll stop there. Just go check out the Boys!
This TV show is something I never knew I needed in my life, but now that it’s here, I can’t be happier. Every episode feels like a new adventure traveling through deep space. It’s a fresh story that is action packed and perfect for any Star Wars fan.
I’m honestly shocked how much I enjoyed this show. I find the original movie terminally boring so I wasn’t really looking forward to this with any hype. But man, what a great show! The craft work for the puppets and sets is absolutely stunning but the characters and story are genuinely captivating. Admittedly it takes an episode or two to get going but once the momentum started I couldn’t stop watching!
Classic Teen Titans team from the 80s comics brought to life in all of their costume glory. Wonder Girl, Aqualad, Starfire, and my favorites Hawk and Dove.Story is a variation of classic Marv Wolfman. Gotta Love it!!
